Homepage

This website was created to display the experiences of Mary Washington College students during World War II through newspapers, oral histories, and yearbooks. There is the inclusion of both their efforts towards the war itself and what was happening on campus in the day-to-day. The material within this website allows our audience to further their research into the topic by making the material we found easier to access.

You can continue to the bottom of this page for a visual representation of the events for the war in a timeline both internationally, nationally, and locally. This can help you contextualize the information you will find throughout the website alongside key events from the war. There are short descriptions for the material from the local events but more information can be found in the archival section. Furthermore, the assisting the war effort page will give materials found on how students were using their time and money in an attempt to support actions in the way. The student life page is used to display the content found about different events both on and off campus for Mary Washington College students that happen to occur during the years of the war. Finally, the archive section is a collection of the different material used throughout the website with the metadata, description, and citation. There is the hope that this website will allow our viewers to sort through the collection of the material found from our research to further their study. Additionally, facilitate a deeper understanding of the history on the University of Mary Washington’s campus.
